Cowgirl Softball Sweeps Scrimmage

STILLWATER, Okla.-- Oklahoma State?s Cowgirl softball team swept a tripleheader scrimmage from the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Lady Norse here Saturday afternoon by scores of 4-0, 3-0 and 11-0. It was OSU?s first action vs. an opponent this season.
The OSU pitching staff was magnificant, with 26 strikeouts in the three games and just three walks. Each pitcher threw a complete-game shutout, and gave up just a combined four hits in 15 innings of play.
In game one, freshman Karla Rivera struck out seven NEO batters and walked none, giving up just two hits in the process. Meanwhile, sophomore Paula Garman started off the fourth inning with a solo home run that hit the middle of the scoreboard and put the Cowgirls up, 2-0. OSU added two more runs in the inning on four consecutive hits.
In the second game, senior pitcher Sarah Knife Chief shut down NEO?s offense, giving up just two hits and walking none while striking out 10 Lady Norse batters. The Cowgirls scored three runs in the bottom of the second on three hits and three walks, as well as three stolen bases.
In the final game, OSU freshman Lauren Bay threw a no-hitter, three walks shy of a perfect game. She also struck out nine batters in the process. At the plate, the Cowgirls were unstoppable as eight batters got at least one hit, and as a team, OSU had 13 hits in 22 at-bats.
Oklahoma State will round out the scrimmage portion of its season on Tuesday, Feb. 8, as the Cowgirls host the No. 2-ranked NAIA Oklahoma City Stars in a tripleheader starting at 2 p.m.
