Softball Picks Up Two More Wins In Springfield

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's softball team picked up two more wins here Sunday afternoon in the Southwest Missouri State Tournament, defeating Drake, 6-2, before shutting out the SMS Bears, 3-0.
In the first game vs. Drake, the Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Cowgirls responded, scoring two in the bottom of the inning. Shelly Graham led off with a base hit, followed by a double off the bat of Amanda Hayes, scoring Graham. After one out, Hayes scored on a single by freshman Kirsty Jennings.
Drake scored another run in the third, but Oklahoma State took the lead for good in the fifth when, with two outs, Jenny Kipp and Graham were successful on a double steal, and both scored when the third baseman threw the ball into rightfield. The Cowgirls added two insurance runs in the sixth for the final score.
For the game, Hayes went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in, while Graham also went 3-for-4 with two runs.
In the second game vs. Southwest Missouri State, freshmen Karla Rivera and Lauren Bay combined for a four-hit shutout. Rivera started, and threw 3-2/3 scoreless innings. Bay came on in relief in the fourth, and struck out six Bear batters, earning her first save of the season.
At the plate, OSU scored two runs in the second when Lezli Leathers scored on an RBI-single by Casey O'Neill, and Ryan Realmuto, who got on base with a double, scored on a sacrifice fly by Paula Garman. The Cowgirls added an insurance run in the sixth when Christina Shaddox led off with a home run, her third of the season.
Oklahoma State (10-2) will travel to St. George, Utah, this weekend for five games in the Utah/St. George Tournament. The Cowgirls will open up with Brigham Young on Friday at 1 p.m. CST, followed by a 3 p.m. contest with Utah State.
