STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl equestrian team will be looking to win its region and automatically qualify for the zone competition as they travel to Canyon, Texas this weekend for the West Texas A&M Hunt Seat Show.
The show will consist of three hunt seat shows, one Friday afternoon and two on Saturday.
"This is the most important show of the season," assistant coach Suzanne Flaig said. "This will determine the team that will automatically go to the zone show and have a chance to go to nationals. This is the last step in the regional championship."
Oklahoma State is currently leading the region by 11 points with a total of 148 points. After 10 shows, the hunt seat team with the highest point total will automatically qualify for the zone show and not have to compete in the regional show. At the zone show, the team will compete head-to-head with the team that won the regional show, and the winning team will advance to the national show held May 12-14 in Atlanta, Ga.
In their last action, the Cowgirls qualified for nationals in the western classes as they won the Texas A&M Western Show last weekend. With the win, they finished in first place in regional points, and will automatically advance to nationals.
