GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Oklahoma State gave up two unearned runs in the top of the seventh and grounded into a double play with two on base and one out in the bottom of the inning as the Cowgirls fell to Northwest Louisiana, 5-3, here Sunday morning in the quarterfinals of the seventh-annual UTA/Isuzu Motors Invitational.
The Lady Demons scored a run in each of the first three inings, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. The Cowgirls responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs on a two-out double by Kirsty Jennings.
Oklahoma State tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth when senior Christina Shaddox, a Bixby, Okla., product, led off the inning with a solo home run, her second of the season.
OSU relief pitcher Lauren Bay shut down Northwest Louisiana for three straight innings, and had two outs in the seventh when Brandy Kenney hit a triple with a runner on, taking a 4-3 lead. Kenney then scored when the next batter reached on an error, making the score 5-3. The Cowgirls had five errors in the game.
Oklahoma State (4-2) will host Panhandle State on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. in doubleheader action. The games will be played at Little Couch Park in Stillwater.
