Cowgirls Finish First In Texas A&M Show

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl equestrian team finished first overall in the Texas A&M Western Show today at the N.W. Dick Freeman Arena. The Cowgirls placed second in the first show and first in the second show to place first overall with 42 points.
With the win, the Cowgirls finished the 10 regional qualifying shows in first place with 204 points overall. Texas A&M finished second with 168 points. The top two teams in the regional standings will automatically advance to the national show May 12-14 in Atlanta, Ga.
"We had a great weekend," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "The girls should all be proud of their performances. It was a great way to end the year."
Oklahoma State was led by Megan Rothlein who placed first in the advanced horsemanship class in both shows.
In the first show, Lara Phillips and Stacey Sullivan placed first in the reining divisions. Nancy Perlich placed first in the open reining class, and Kim Cloud won the her section of the advanced horsemanship class. Erika Wint also recorded a first place finish for the Cowgirls, winning the intermediate horsemanship class.
In the second show, Allysa Allen placed first in the reining class and also recorded a first place finish in the open rail division. Sarah Potter also added a first place finish for OSU as she won her section of the advanced horsemanship class.
Several Cowgirls also earned enough points throughout the season to qualify for the regional show at the Animal Science Arena on March 4. Trista Armstrong and Lara Phillips qualified for regionals in the reining class. Allysa Allen qualified in the open rail division. Chelsea Makloski, Stephanie Hefley, and Megan Walentine qualified for regionals in the advanced horsemanship class. In the intermediate horsemanship class, Amy Eastty and Amber Higgins qualified for the regional show. Amy Allen and Erika Wint qualified for the show in beginning horsemanship.
The Cowgirls will close out their hunt seat season next weekend with three
hunt seat shows hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
