Oklahoma State Blasts Grambling 24-4

RUSTON, La. - Oklahoma State exploded for 19 runs in the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie and blasted Grambling State 24-4 Friday night at J.C. Love Field.
The Tigers scored four runs off of Cowboy starter Ryan Herrmann, three of them coming off a monster homerun by designated hitter Charles Reese in the third inning.
OSU trailed 4-2 in the third but scored two runs in the stanza to tie the game. One run came off a solo homer by Ronte Langs and the other off a RBI single by Nebasett Brown.
The floodgates opened for the Pokes in the fifth as OSU took advantage of six Grambling errors in the inning and combined it with 11 hits to bat around three times in the inning. Toby Rhodes went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the fifth and Curt Anthony hit a two-run homer in the inning to lead the offensive onslaught. Ryan Budde chipped in with two RBI singles as well as OSU led 23-4 after five.
The Cowboys added another run in the sixth off a Gabe Luttrell RBI single to rightfield that scored Lance Smith.
The game was called in the seventh due to the 12-run rule.
Reliever Stu Hunt (1-0) pitched three shutout innings of relief to pick up the win for the Pokes. Hunt gave up one hit while striking out three after coming into the game in the fourth.
Starter Ryan Herrmann gave up all four runs off of six hits and struck out six in six innings of work.
Hitting stars for the Pokes were Ryan Budde (3-for-4, three RBIs), Toby Rhodes (4-for-4, three RBIs), Ronte Langs (2-for-3, two RBIs, three runs) and Curt Anthony (2-for-4, three RBIs, three runs)
Charles McLendon picked up the loss for the Tigers to drop to 1-1 on the season. He pitched in relief of starter Rashad Washington in the third and gave up three runs off of two hits in an inning and a third of action.
Oklahoma State moved to 2-2 with the win while Grambling fell to 2-1. The Cowboys will face Louisiana Tech Saturday at 1 p.m. CST before closing out the three-game tournament against Grambling on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST. Scheduled to pitch against the Bulldogs will be junior ace Matt Smith.
