Oklahoma State Falls To Louisiana Tech 12-6

RUSTON, La.-- - T.J. Soto's three-run homer in the fifth inning sparked Louisiana Tech to a 12-6 victory over Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field.
The Cowboys jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first with four hits in the inning off of Bulldog starter Robert Ogle. Ronte Langs led off the game with a homer and Carlos Gautreaux added a two-RBI double to lead OSU's attack.
Both teams' catchers traded solo homers as Tech's Tim Meadows hit one in the second and Ryan Budde blasted one in the fourth to push the OSU lead to 5-1.
The Bulldogs added another run in the fourth to cut the margin to 5-2 before Soto's three-run blast over the centerfield wall tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth.
Cowboy starter Matt Smith could not get out of the fifth and was relieved by Frank Bludau who got the final out of the inning. Smith gave up five runs off of seven hits and struck out seven in four and two-thirds innings of work.
Louisiana Tech plated two runs in the sixth courtesy of a two-run homer by second baseman Craig Montgomery off of reliever Rusty Rushing.
The Bulldogs added five more runs in the eighth, four coming via a grand-slam homer by rightfielder Jake Adams to push the lead to 12-5.
Pinch-hitter Rob Watson added a solo homer in the ninth to finish out the scoring in the contest.
Reliever Frank Bludau was charged with the loss and dropped to 0-2 on the season while Ogle moved to 2-0 with the complete game win. Ogle gave up only four hits after the first and ended the game with 10 strikeouts.
Oklahoma State dropped to 2-3 with the loss while Louisiana Tech moved to 4-2. The Cowboys will close out the three-game tournament against Grambling on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST. Scheduled to pitch against the Tigers will be junior southpaw Josh Merrigan.
