Cowgirls Place Second At West Texas A&M Show

CANYON, Texas -- Oklahoma State's Cowgirl equestrian team won the Saturday evening show in Canyon, Texas to tie for second overall at the West Texas A&M western show.
Oklahoma State tied with Texas A&M for 55 points, while show host West Texas A&M won the show with 72 team points.
"The girls performed well," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "They did a great job. Things really fell into place for the Saturday night show."
Allysa Allen won her open reining class in the first show and was the open horsemanship champion in the third show. Meghan Walentine also won her open horsemanship class in the first show and was the open horsemanship champion in the second show. Walentine was also the high point rider in the second show and is currently leading the region in total points in open horsemanship.
In the first show, Ashley Bramlett won her section of the advanced horsemanship class and Kate Hayes was the intermediate horsemanship champion. Sheila Dohmann also won her section of the advanced horsemanship class.
In the Saturday morning show, Stacey Sullivan was the open reining champion and Amy Eastty won her advanced western horsemanship class.
In the Saturday evening show, Chelsea Makloski won the open reining class and Amber Higgins received first place honors in advanced western horsemanship. Makloski also received reserve high point rider honors. Erika Wint and Casie Cavanaugh also won their sections of the intermediate horsemanship class. Tracey Remshardt also added a win for the Cowgirls in beginning horsemanship.
In their next action, the Cowgirls will remain at home to host three hunt seat shows Oct. 21-22 at the Animal Science Arena.
