AUGUSTA, Kan. - Oklahoma State's men's cross country team had the top six collegiate finishes as won its sixth consecutive Wichita Gold Classic at the RAFT Golf Course here today.
Senior Chuck Sloan's 19:56.00 was good enough to crown him the meet champion for the second time in his career. He also won the title in 1996. The past six champions at the Classic have all been Cowboys.
Bruce Wright, the only other letterwinner returning from last season's team, finished the 50th annual meet second in 20:02.00. Jerry Rainey finished third in 20:09.00, and Derek Tate was right behind him with a 20:17.00 finish.
Newcomer Gregory Rouault barely edged out teammate Ben Lake for sixth place. Rouault finished in 20:46.30 with Lake on his heels at 20:46.90.
Unattached runner Wayne Strohman was the only non-Cowboy to finish in the top seven. He finished fifth in 20:21.00.
The Cowboys will next head to the Fordham Fiasco in New York City on Sept. 18. From there, they will come home to host the Cowboy Jamboree on Oct. 2.
