Dad's Day Events Scheduled
September 30, 1999 | General
Along with the football game and traditional fraternity and sorority activities, the members of Blue Key have several events planned.
Blue Key is an honorary organization intended to recognize outstanding juniors and seniors in their academic accomplishments.
The activities, which are also sponsored by Iota Kappa and Orange and Black Quill, will begin at 4:30 p.m. and are to take place on the library lawn.
Several games including a Quarterback Challenge, a Pitch and Chip Contest, a Cowboy Trivia Contest, and a Cast-off Contest will be held.
Blue Key members will judge each of the contests, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Blue Key president Jacob Hager said the winner of the Punt, Pass, and Kick contest will be announced at Lewis Field during the OSU-Texas Tech football game.
Hager also stated that the events and games would continue running as long as people continue to participate.
?We don?t have a time set for when the events will end,? Hagar said. ?As long as people continue showing interest and keep coming by, we will keep the activities going.?
Blue Key has been planning Dad?s Day events ever since the late ?70s. Before this time, Dad?s Day was known as Parents? Weekend.
?The last couple of years have not been very successful because the event was held on Old Central Lawn,? Hager said. ?This year we have more activities and a better location, we?re expecting anywhere from 500 to 700 people.?
Vice President of External Affairs and Blue Key Advisor Harry Birdwell stated that he also believed the event would have more participation than in the past.
?The amount of emphasis that Blue Key members place on the event is a good indicator of how many people will participate in the activities. In the past Blue Key had enormous success with Dad?s Day. In the last few years, however, this success has dropped off. This year, we?re hoping to reemphasize what it is we?re doing,? Birdwell said.
The members of Blue Key will also be selling Dad?s Day T-shirts on Oct. 6,7, and 8 by Chi-O Clock. They will also be selling them by the stadium and on the library lawn on Dad?s Day.
Don?t forget to contact the OSU ticket office at 744-5745 to purchase Dad tickets for the OSU-Texas Tech football game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lewis Field.
