Cowgirl Softball Drops Best-Of-Three To Seminole State

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team dropped 2-of-3 games to Seminole State College here Tuesday afternoon, losing 1-0, 1-0, before winning the final game, 1-0.
OSU's only win came in the final game of the tripleheader. Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the third when Cowgirl Amanda Hayes led off with a double over the top of the drawn-in outfield.
Shelly Graham then reached on an error. During the next at-bat, Graham was caught in a run-down between first and second while attempting to steal, and Hayes scored as Graham was tagged out.
Freshman Karla Rivera pitched the third game for OSU, giving up just three hits while striking out five. She faced just three batters over the minimum and walked none with total control over her pitches.
The Lady Trojans' Gerlyn Elam threw nine shutout innings, coming on in relief in the second inning of game one, and starting game two. She scattered seven hits over that nine-inning span, and struck out six Cowgirl batters.
Seminole State led off the top of the afternoon with consecutive base hits. After JuCo All-American Amanda Cave sacrificed both runners over, Raimie Lafollette scored on a base hit by Reagan Hamlin.
Cave started the game and went just one inning, giving up consecutive base hits in the bottom of the first. Elam started the bottom of the second and faced just two batters over the minimum in game one. She then started game two, and went the distance in picking up her second win of the day.
OSU had its chances to score, with consecutive base hits in the second, third and fourth innings. But, the next two batters struck out in the second, and both batters flew out in the third and fourth to end the threat.
Oklahoma State (2-3) will host two mini-tournaments this weekend, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Both will start at 9 a.m., with the Cowgirls scheduled to play at 11 a.m., 5 and 7 p.m. The games will be played at Little Couch Park in Stillwater.
