Women's Tennis Upsets Kansas in Big 12 Tourney

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. - Oklahoma State swept all three doubles matches as the Cowgirls rallied past third-seeded Kansas in second-round action in the Big 12 Women's Tennis Championships Friday afternoon.
The upset win will send the Cowgirls against either Oklahoma or Colorado Saturday at noon in semi-final action.
The Cowgirls got off to a rough start in singles play winning only two of six matches. Junior Marketa Chmelova won a hard three set battle at No. 4 over Kansas' Monica Sekulov 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Cowgirl freshman Dominika Olszewska defeated Brooke Chiller in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(8-6) .
The strength of Oklahoma State's team showed up in doubles play, with the Cowgirls winning at all three spots. The No. 3 duo of Martina Hautova and Lenka Humenikova won their seventh straight with the 8-1 win over Sekulov and Lisa Mallaiah.
"I am very proud of our girls," said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. "Last night we talked about having heart and the confidence to go in and beat Kansas. Everybody contributed today, it's a sweet win."
The win over Kansas is the first for the Oklahoma State since 1991.
