COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State's eighth-ranked softball team took two games from the ninth-ranked Missouri Tigers here Sunday afternoon amidst wind gusts over 35 mph. OSU held Missouri scoreless for 17 complete innings for the two-game sweep.
It took 10 innings and a fine pitching performance from Leanne Tyler (10-3) to win the first game, 1-0. Both Tyler and MU's Stephanie Falk went nine innings without giving up a run until OSU scored in the top of the 10. With OSU's speedy Kristine Garcia placed on second base due to the international tiebreaker rule, senior Kristi Bolle sacrificed Garcia over to third, and with two outs, All- American Jaime Foutch drove Garcia in on a base hit to right field.
Foutch went 3-for-4 in the game and Tyler allowed just five hits while striking out four and walking two in her second shutout of the season.
In game two, Oklahoma State scored two runs in the top of the third which proved to be all that the Cowgirls needed as senior Jenn Markert (9-3) threw a marvelous game, scattering five hits over seven shutout innings while striking out 11 Tiger batters and walking none. The Cowgirls added a run in the sixth to win the game, 3-0.
OSU's offense exploded, clubbing 10 hits, all singles, off Missouri's Tonya Winberry (10-5). Foutch and Shannon Sullivan led the team, each with three hits, while Bolle had two.
Oklahoma State, now 32-11 overall and 6-3 in the Big 12 Conference, will host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend as the Texas A&M Aggies come to town on Saturday, and on Sunday, the Texas Longhorns will visit Stillwater. Both series will begin at 12 p.m.
