Softball Wins Spring Classic

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked softball team went a perfect 4-0 as the Cowgirls won the team title of the OSU Cowgirl Spring Classic here this weekend.
OSU defeated Wichita State 6-1 before shutting out the Western Illinois Westerwinds, 2-0. Oklahoma State had defeated Oklahoma City and Southwest Missouri State in action Friday.
Against Wichita State, the Cowgirls used a five-run sixth inning to defeat the Shockers. Leanne Tyler went 3-for-3 in the game and pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win and move her record to 7-2. Choctaw-native Jennifer Olival went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Senior Jenn Markert pitched the last three innings and picked up her first save of the year.
In the nightcap vs. Western Illinois, OSU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and Amy Lopez threw her fifth shutout of the season, a two-hitter, as Oklahoma State won, 2-0. It was OSU's second win of the season over WIU, Coach Sandy Fischer's alma mater.
Oklahoma State had five players named to the all-tournament team; Kristi Boelle, Jaime Foutch, Kristine Garcia, Lopez and Tyler. Boelle had two doubles and four runs batted in, leading the tournament; Foutch was third in batting average with a .545, including a home run, three walks, three runs scored and two RBIs; Garcia batted .500 at the plate with two runs and an RBI; Lopez went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 14 innings; and Tyler batted .500 at the plate with a double and was 2-0 on the mound with a 0.82 ERA and 14 strikeouts in just 11 innings pitched.
Oklahoma State will return to action next weekend as the Cowgirls travel to Fullerton, Calif., to participate in the Kia Klassic, formerly known as the PONY Invitational. OSU will face top-ranked Arizona on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. PST to open the tournament.
