STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team used two complete-game shutouts to sweep the Iowa State Cyclones, 4-0 and 3-0, here Saturday afternoon in Big 12 Conference action at Cowgirl Field.
Seniors Leanne Tyler and Jenn Markert provided the spark on the mound, each shutting down ISU and picking up the wins. Tyler threw the first game, and allowed just three hits while walking two and striking out six. Markert threw the second, allowing three hits as well while walking just one and striking out 10 Cyclone batters.
Meanwhile, first baseman Jaime Foutch was providing the punch at the plate. In the two games, the junior from Edmond, Okla., went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and five runs batted in. She had a double and a solo home run, her seventh of the season, in the first game and added her eighth double of the season in the second.
Senior Kristi Blle added three runs in the twinbill for OSU, and had two stolen bases to up her team-leading total to 11. Shortstop Shannon Sullivan hit her second dinger of the year, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning of the first game.
No. 12 Oklahoma State (35-15 overall, 9-7 in Big 12) will conclude the regular season on Sunday as the Cowgirls host the seventh-ranked Nebraska Huskers (38-8, 16-0) on Sunday in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. The Huskers clinched the Big 12 regular-season title Saturday with a sweep of the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, 5-3 and 6-3.
