STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Jennifer Olival scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch as the Cowgirls won game two and split with the Texas A&M Aggies here Saturday afternoon in a softball doubleheader.
Oklahoma State trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh as Texas A&M scored its only run of the game in the fifth inning on a double by pitcher Amy Vining. Junior Jaime Foutch led off the seventh with a one hopper to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Shortstop Shannon Sullivan followed that with her sixth double of the season that hit the base of the left centerfield fence, scoring Foutch.
Olival replaced Foutch on second base as a pinch runner, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Melissa Turley. A&M Coach Jo Evans elected to intentionally walk the next two batters, loading the bases for the forceout at any base.
After Aggie pitcher walked designated player Michelle Singer, She threw two balls to Liz Silva. The third pitch, which went wide right and out of the reach of catcher Marianne McGuire, allowed Olival to score.
OSU pitcher Jenn Markert struck out a season-high 13 batters while giving up just three hits and walking none. It was the sixth double-digit strikeout game of the season for the senior righthander from Binghamton, N.Y.
Texas A&M won the first game 3-1, scoring a single run in each of the first, third and sixth innings. Oklahoma State scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first. Kristi Boelle led off with a double, her ninth of the season, and with two outs, Shannon Sullivan slapped a slow roller back to pitcher Ashley Lewis. Nobody covered first, and Sullivan beat Lewis to the bag. Boelle rounded third and scored as Lewis failed to throw home.
Tenth-ranked Oklahoma State (33-12 overall, 7-4 Big 12) will host the eighth- ranked Texas Longhorns on Sunday in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. Texas A&M (31-21-1, 5-7) will travel to Norman, Okla., to face the fifth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in Big 12 action as well.
