STILLWATER, Ind. - Fomer OSU pom-squad member Hally Rector was named Wednesday as one of 16 recipients of the Sears Directors' Cup Postgraduate Scholarship Awards.
Rector is one of just four persons from NCAA Division I institutions to receive a scholarship. The Tulsa native completed her marketing degree at OSU with a 3.78 GPA.
The 1997 OSU Homecoming Queen, Rector's OSU undergraduate career was outstanding from start -- she was named one of the institution's top 20 freshman women -- to finish -- OSU named her this year's Outstanding Senior.
She served on the pom squad for three years and was named Top Marketing Graduate by the College of Business faculty. She was president of the OSU Mortar Board chapter; vice president of both Programs of OSU Marketing Club and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority; and a one-year member of the athletic advisory council.
Rector and the 15 other winners were chosen from 181 nominees from NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA and will each receive a $5,000 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies. The winners will receive their awards at the June 14-17 convention of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The ceremony will occur at the NACDA Scholarship Awards Luncheon, presented by Sears, on Tuesday, June 16. Dan Fouts of ABC Sports will serve as master of ceremonies.
The Big 12 Conference was well represented in the Sears Directors' Cup Postgraduate Scholarships; one of the other three Division I scholarship winners is Catherine Wellman, an office assistant at the University of Nebraska.
Members of the athletic support staff are eligible for these prestigious awards. This includes students from the categories of academic support, band members, equipment room managers, facility managers, sports information assistants, student coaches and trainers. Each of the nominees had to have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate involvement on the collegiate or community level and maintain full-time status as a senior.
