OSU Hosts Tulsa in Non-Conference Game

Oklahoma State (14-15 overall, 0-2 Big 12) will host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (14-25 overall, 3-6 Western Athletic) this Wednesday for a single non-conference game. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
COWGIRLS FALL TO MISSOURI
Oklahoma State defeated the Golden Hurricane, 4-1, last Wednesday night
behind
some fine pitching by Cowgirl senior Sheryl Anderson. Anderson threw a
complete
game, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out five. She
also got
some fine fielding by her defense, including a double play by
leftfielder Shelly
Graham who threw a runner out at home. The OSU offense was sporatic,
collecting
nine hits, but stranding 14 runners on base. The TU defense committed
six
errors, making all four OSU runs unearned.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State will travel to Ames, Iowa, and Lincoln, Neb., to face the
Iowa
State Cyclones and Nebraska Huskers, respectively, on Saturday and
Sunday. both
doubleheaders are scheduled to start at noon. The next nine OSU contests
will be
on the road, with the next home game scheduled for Thurs., April 23,
when the
Cowgirls host the Utah Utes.
NEWCOMERS STEPPING UP
Three of the top four offensive players for Oklahoma State this season
are new
to the program. Shelly Graham, a junior transfer from Pittsburg State,
is second
on the team in batting with a .354 average, 17 runs scored, six doubles,
two
triples and eight runs batted in. Casey O'Neill, a freshman from San
Diego,
Calif., is batting .328 with 10 RBIs, five doubles and eight runs.
Amanda Hayes,
a transfer from Louisiana Tech, is batting .314 with 10 runs, two
doubles and a
perfect 6-of-6 on stolen-base attempts. In all, OSU's newcomers have
accounted
for 53 of OSU's 105 runs (50.5%).
COWGIRL NOTE-ABLE
Oklahoma State's catchers have thrown out 10-of-32 base runners on
stolen-base
attempts, or 31.2 percent. Conversely, OSU base runners have been
successful on
29-of-37 attempts, or 78.3 percent ... Senior Michelle Singer leads the
pack,
throwing out 7-of-20 base stealers ... Cowgirl freshman Jessica Jenkins
has
struck out 51 batters in 43.2 innings, an average of 8.2 strikeouts per
seven
innings ... Oklahoma State has turned 11 double plays this season,
compared to
just four by the opponents ... Six OSU batters are hitting at least .350
with
two outs in an inning, led by Casey O'Neill's .500 average in 20 at-bats
...
Five Cowgirls are batting at least .333 with runners in scoring
position, led by
Jaime Foutch's .433 average ... Foutch is batting a whopping .489 with
runners
on, but just .326 when the bases are empty ... Shelly Graham, OSU's
leadoff
hitter in 17-of-29 games, is batting .441 when leading off an inning ...
As a
team, Oklahoma State is 25-for-50 when batting with a runner on third
base and
less than two outs ... OSU is batting a dismal .167 when the bases are
loaded,
while the opposition is batting .237 in the same situation ... Opponent
leadoff
hitters are batting .419 against the Cowgirl pitchers, but just .227
with
runners on base ... The Cowgirls have had 45 two-out RBIs, led by
freshman Casey
O'Neill and Foutch, who each have six. Shelly Graham and Melissa Turley
each
have five, while Kristine Garcia and Amanda Hayes have four each ...
Oklahoma
State has scored more runs in the third inning (25) than any other
inning, but
have not scored more than 17 in the other six. Meanwhile, the opponents
have
scored at least 20 runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings
...
Seniors Foutch, Katie Wise and Melissa Turley rank 2-3-5 in career walks
at
Oklahoma State, respectively. Foutch, with 49, needs four more to
surpass
Stephenie Little's 52 career passes, and Wise is tied with Dena Carter
for third
with 47. Turley currently has 44 walks.
HITTING STREAKS
Jaime Foutch's 12-game hitting streak, the longest of the season by any
Cowgirl,
was broken in the first game against Missouri. Casey O'Neill now holds
the
longest current hitting streak at five games. Here is a look at the

Oklahoma State's Melissa Turley and Kristine Garcia were both honored by the Big 12 Conference with the NationsBank Community Champion Award this season. Turley was featured on the Big 12 Showcase three weeks ago, while Garcia will be honored on the same program in the future. Both were nominated by Oklahoma State's Athletic Department for their dedication to the Stillwater community and to several charitable organizations. OSU's only other honoree was Cowboy tailback Jamaal Fobbs, who received the accolade during the fall semester.

All conference home games, as well as the game at Oklahoma on April 21
and any
postseason play, are scheduled to be aired live on Stillwater Radio.

Oklahoma State is 12-1 all-time vs. the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, including a 4-1 win last Wednesday in Broken Arrow, Okla. The Cowgirls won 11 straight from 1979 until 1998 by an average margin of 5.6 runs per game. OSU has never allowed TU to score more than three runs in a game in the series. Nine of the 13 games have been played in Stillwater, with two in Tulsa (both games of 1995), one in Oklahoma City, at the OU Softball Tournament in 1997, and last week's game was played in Broken Arrow.
