OSU HOSTS JAYHAWKS IN BIG 12 OPENER
Oklahoma State (13-13) hosts the Kansas Jayhawks (14-13) in both teams'
conference opener. The Cowgirls are coming off a 4-3 win over Wichita State
Wednesday night in eight innings.
COWGIRLS DEFEAT SHOCKERS
OSU's Kristine Garcia scored on a base hit by Melissa Turley that got
pushed into shallow right field by the third baseman and the Cowgirls
extended their record to 55-1 all-time vs. the Wichita State Shockers in a
4-3 win in eight innings. Sarah Knife Chief started on the mound, but was
replaced in the seventh by Jessica Jenkins, who shut down the Shockers.
Katie Wise threw out a Shocker runner at the plate in the bottom of the
seventh to send the game into extra innings.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State will host the Missouri Tigers tomorrow in a doubleheader
starting at noon. On Wednesday, OSU will travel to Tulsa, Okla., to face
the TU Golden Hurricane in a single game starting at 5 p.m.
NEWCOMERS STEPPING UP
Three of the top six offensive players for Oklahoma State this season are
new to the program. Shelly Graham, a junior transfer from Pittsburg State,
is second on the team in batting with a .379 average, 16 runs scored, five
doubles, two triples and eight runs batted in. Casey O'Neill, a freshman
from San Diego, Calif., is batting .320 with 10 RBIs, four doubles and
seven runs. Amanda Hayes, a transfer from Louisiana Tech, is batting .300
with 10 runs, two doubles and a perfect 6-of-6 on stolen-base attempts. In
all, OSU's newcomers have accounted for 49 of OSU's 96 runs (51.0%).
COWGIRL NOTE-ABLE
Oklahoma State's catchers have thrown out 10-of-30 base runners on
stolen-base attempts, or 33.3 percent. Conversely, OSU base runners have
been successful on 29-of-37 attempts, or 78.3 percent ... Senior Michelle
Singer leads the pack, throwing out 7-of-18 base stealers ... Cowgirl
freshman Jessica Jenkins has struck out 50 batters in 42.0 innings, an
average of 8.33 strikeouts per seven innings ... Oklahoma State has turned
10 double plays this season, compared to just four by the opponents ... Six
Cowgirls are batting at least .333 with runners in scoring position, led by
Jaime Foutch's .481 average ... Shelly Graham, OSU's leadoff hitter in
14-of-26 games, is batting .517 when leading off an inning ... As a team,
Oklahoma State is 23-for-44 when batting with a runner on third base and
less than two outs ... OSU is batting a dismal .211 when the bases are
loaded, while the opposition is batting just .194 ... The Cowgirls have had
43 two-out RBIs, led by freshman Casey O'Neill and Foutch, who each have
six. Shelly Graham and Melissa Turley each have five, while Kristine Garcia
and Amanda Hayes have four each.

SERIES VS. KANSAS
Oklahoma State is 47-34 all-time vs. the Kansas Jayhawks, including a 2-1
record last season and wins in 20 of the last 25. The Cowgirls are 8-5
all-time vs. the Jayhawks in Stillwater. There have been 34 shutouts in the
series, with OSU holding a 19-15 edge. Seven-of-nine extra-inning games
have gone the Cowgirls' way, including the sixth-longest game in NCAA
history, a 24-inning battle between OSU's Melanie Roche and KU's Stephanie
Williams. The Cowgirls won that game, 1-0. Oklahoma State's longest winning
streak in the series is eight games, twice. KU won five in a row from
1979-80. OSU won the last game between the two teams, 1-0, in the Big 12
