TWO COWGIRLS HONORED Oklahoma States Melissa Turley and Kristine Garcia were both honored by the Big 12 Conference with the NationsBank Community Champion Award this season. Turley was featured on the Big 12 Showcase three weeks ago, while Garcia will be honored on the same program in the future. Both were nominated by Oklahoma States Athletic Department for their dedication to the Stillwater community and to several charitable organizations. OSUs only other honoree was Cowboy tailback Jamaal Fobbs, who received the accolade during the fall semester.
SERIES VS. UTAH Oklahoma State is 8-4 all-time vs. the Utah Utes, including a 1-0 record in Stillwater. All other games have been played at neutral sites. The only game played in Stillwater was during the 1995 NCAA Regional, when the Cowgirls defeated Utah, 3-0. The Utes won the first three meetings between these two school, all during the 1982 season. Since then, the only other loss to Utah was a 2-0 setback in eight innings in the 1994 Womens College World Series.
SERIES VS. BAYLOR Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with Baylor, 10-4, including a 4-1 mark in Stillwater. The two teams have split the last four games, and the Bears won the last meeting, 2-1, in Waco. The first seven games played were at neutral sites, beginning in the fall of 1980. In 1987, OSU hosted the Cowgirl Classic, and shut out BU, 13-0 and 5-0. Although Big 12 play began in 1996, the game between OSU and Baylor was played in the OSU Spring Classic. The teams are tied, 2-2 in conference games.
SERIES VS. TEXAS TECH Oklahoma State has dominated the series with Texas Tech, owning a 12-1 record vs. the Red Raiders. OSU won the first 11 games in the series, which began in the spring of 1980. The Cowgirls threw five shutouts vs. TTU before the Raiders finally scored in OSUs first-ever Big 12 contest. The Cowgirls won, 8-4, in eight innings in the first game last season, and Texas Tech won its first-ever game vs. OSU in the second as Emily Hayes threw a shutout. The Cowgirls defeated Texas Tech, 1-0, in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament last season.
