Cowgirls Open Regular Season This Weekend

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team, ranked 15th in the preseason according to the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, will open the 1999 regular season this weekend as the Cowgirls compete in the UTA/Pepsi-Cola InterCollegiate Tournament. OSU will open the tournament Friday morning as the Cowgirls play the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 9 a.m.

Oklahoma State will also play 25th-ranked Oregon and Texas-San Antonio in pool play before starting bracket play on Saturday afternoon. Other ranked teams in the tournament are No. 11 Oklahoma, 24th-ranked Illinois-Chicago, No. 38 Texas Tech, and 44th-ranked Northeast Louisiana.

The Cowgirls, who finished fourth at the Women's College World Series last season, return seven starters in the field, including three-time All-American Jaime Foutch. Sheryl Anderson is the lone returner on the mound for OSU, but she is joined by first-team All-SEC selection Sarah Knife Chief, along with freshman Jessica Jenkins.
