Cowgirls Have Bright Spots At Big 12

AMES, Iowa. - The Cowgirls finished last at the Indoor Big 12 Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Ames, Iowa, but left with some highlight performances from several athletes.
The 4X400-meter relay team found their way to the award stand, receiving a fourth place medal.
The relay foursome of Sherita Jackson, Andrene Thompson, Natasha Santee and Melody Vaughn provided some excitement for the crowd at the Lied Recreation Center on the campus of Iowa State University during the closing events Saturday evening. The relay team raced to victory in their heat finishing in a time of 3:44.49.
This was their best indoor performance of 1998.
Junior Andrene Thompson missed an individual Big 12 800m title, finishing second in a time of 2:08.29.
Her performance broke a 12 year old school record of 2:08.30 set by Justine Craig at the Big Eight indoor meet 1986.
Her time was also a Big 12 meet record and it provisionally qualified her for the national indoor meet.
Junior Tamara Dingley also found herself on the award stand earning a sixth place medal in the mile, finishing in a time of 5:00.17
