STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane here Wednesday evening at Cowgirl Field. The win gives Tulsa a split with OSU in the two-game series.
Tulsa took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a pair of base hits to centerfield and a costly error at third base. With a runner on first, Alexis Gutierrez hit a single up the middle and Kari Curtis, a Stillwater product, reached third after dislodging the ball from Jaime Foutch's glove. Curtis then scored on a base hit by Jessie Smith, and Gutierrez scored on a sacrifice fly caught in foul territory. Tiffany Redding struck out to end the inning.
The Cowgirls rallied in the next two innings. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on first and second and one out, Katie Wise bunted both runners over on a sacrifice hit. Freshman Casey O'Neill then hit a hard grounder to short, but Redding made a fine play to end the inning.
In the fifth, Oklahoma State had runners on first and second on consecutive base hits by Jennifer Olival and Foutch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch by starter Krystal Markwardt, and Jenny Magill came on in relief of Markwardt. Michelle Singer grounded into a fielder's choice, and Angela Wedlake threw Olival out at home. Melissa Turley lined out to end the inning.
Oklahoma State (14-16) returns to action this weekend as the Cowgirls travel to Iowa State on Saturday and Nebraska on Sunday to play doubleheaders against both at noon.
