STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboy cross country team brought home another District V title from Wichita, Kan. today.
With 42 points and three runners in the top ten, the Cowboys swept the men's 10,000 meter run. OSU also won the District V title in 1997.
Senior Chuck Sloan was the first runner across the line for the Cowboys, with a time of 31:04.80. Just seconds behind Sloan was Senior Gitogo Churu, who finished in 31:05.30. Senior Rene Carlsen placed 10th, with a time of 31:22.70.
The team's first-place finish in its district makes them eligible for the Nov. 23 NCAA Championships in Lawrence, Kan. In order to earn a spot to the NCAA Championships, a team must place in the top two in its district.
The Cowgirl cross country team finished fifth at district today, earning 152 points in the women's 5,000 meter run. Kansas State won the title with 92 points.
Sophomore Hanna Smedstad placed third overall, with a time of 17:09.00. Smedstad was nominated weeks in a row as the "Big 12 Runner of the Week" this season.
The Cowgirls made the top 25 this year for the first time in nine years when they were ranked 25 in the Oct. 13 poll.
