STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State men's basketball team has signed junior-college transfer Roy Candley to a letter of intent, head coach Eddie Sutton announced Thursday.
Candley, a 7-2, 390-pound center from Baton Rouge, La., averaged 17 points and nine rebounds while shooting 78 percent from the free throw line for Panola (Texas) JC this season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Cowboys for the 1998-99 season.
"We're pleased that Roy Candley has decided to join our basketball family," said Sutton. "He's a young man with a lot of potential, but he also has a lot of hard work ahead of him. He has wonderful hands and a good shooting touch, and he's an excellent passer. His coaches have indicated that he has a very good work ethic, and when we visited with Roy personally, he was very excited about improving his physical conditioning."
Candley's signing fills OSU's 13-scholarship limit for the coming season. The Cowboys signed three players in the fall period, and junior guard Glendon Alexander, who joined OSU at semester this past season, will be eligible this coming December.
