10th-Ranked Cowgirls Upset No. 4 Sooners, 2-1

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Softball team, led by a fine performance on the mound by Amy Lopez, upset the fourth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 2-1 here Wednesday night before a record crowd at Cowgirl Field.
Lopez struck out a season-high 10 Sooner batters in picking up her ninth win of the season (9-3). Cowgirl Jenn Markert came on in relief in the top of the sixth and picked up her second save of the year.
No. 10 Oklahoma State took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when junior Jaime Foutch hit a solo home run, her team-leading sixth of the season, over the left-centerfield fence off starter Lana Moran. The Oklahoma tied the score in the top of the third when Stephanie Clark walked, stole second and scored on a base hit by Ashli Barrett.
OSU stranded runners in both the third and fourth innings, but took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. After Kristine Garcia raced to first to beat out a bunt, she outran the throw to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Kristi Bolle. After another sacrifice bunt by Michelle Ryan for the first out, which advanced both runners, Foutch was intentionally walked. Garcia's speed then paid off as she dashed for home on a groundout by Shannon Sullivan to the shortstop, who had no chance of throwing out Garcia.
Lisa Carey led the Sooners, going 2-for-4 with a double from the leadoff spot. Lana Moran (15-5) took the loss for OU as she struck out six and walked three.
Oklahoma State (26-7, 1-0 Big 12) will return to action this weekend as the Cowgirls travel to Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday to face the 22nd-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders in doubleheader action, and to Waco, Texas, to face the Baylor Bears on Sunday.
