CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oklahoma State received technical falls from Reggie Wright and Ty Wilcox, as the third-ranked Cowboys thumped 20th-ranked Oregon State 29-6 Friday night at Gill Coliseum, and extended their unbeaten streak to 72.
Recording its second wins in as many nights, Oklahoma State's wrestling squad improved to 3-0-1 on the season and 1-0-1 against top 25 competition. The Beavers fell to 1-2 with both losses coming to nationally ranked opponents.
Wright got things started for the Cowboys at 149 pounds with a match termination technical fall over Andy Frey at the 7:00 mark. Wright was able to record 11 takedowns in the match, the last coming with :01 second remaining.
Oregon State's fifth-ranked Eric Jorgensen narrowly escaped an upset bid by the Cowboy's Shane Roller in a 9-7 decision. Roller, ranked 15th, fell to 14-7 on the season, while Jorgensen improved to 13-1.
Wilcox then upped the Cowboy lead to 10-3 with a technical fall over Don Kersey. Wilcox received the technical fall at the 7:00 mark with the addition of the riding time point. He improved his record to 12-3 and has earned bonus points for the Cowboys in his last two matches.
Third-ranked Mark Mu?oz continued his dominance at 197 pounds with a major decision win over Clint Wilson. The 19-8 win gave Mu?oz his fifteenth win against zero losses. He will now look to a possible match up with Nebraska's second-ranked Brad Vering in Sunday's Reno Tournament of Champions.
At 285, the Cowboys sixth-ranked Dave Anderton was upset by 10th-ranked Jason Cooley 10-8. The loss was only the second of the season for Anderton.
With the dual well-in-hand, Oklahoma State received decisions from both 16th-ranked Jeff Ragan at 125 pounds and seventh-ranked Charles Walker at 133 pounds.
Jamill Kelly secured the 29-6 win with a major decision over Shane Cunanan 17-7. Kelly, who is currently ranked fourth, improved his record to 13-1.
Oklahoma State will put its number three ranking on the line Sunday in the Reno Tournament of Champions. The Pokes will go up against the likes of seventh-ranked Nebraska and 11th-ranked Cal State-Bakersfield. The action will begin at 9 a.m. (PST) with the finals scheduled for 5 p.m. (PST).
