Cowgirls Advance On Day One Of Rolex Regional

SALT LAKE CITY - Maria Galoustova and Dominika Olszewska advanced to the round of 16 in singles play at the Rolex Regional in Salt Lake City on Thursday.
In the top half of the bracket, OSU's Marketa Chmelova dropped her first round match to Boise State's Pia-Lena Ander 6-4, 6-0. The 14th seeded Olszewska won her opening match, defeating Ashleigh Hedberg of New Mexico in straight sets. In the second round, Olszewska moved on to beat New Mexico State's Tamie Masey 6-1, 6-1.
In the bottom half of the draw, Galoustova defeated Brigham Young's Dominique Reynolds in straight sets and Tulsa's Monica Poveda, who entered the event as the 15th seed.
Ashleigh Dolman, who won two qualifying matches on Wednesday to get into the main draw, lost her first round contest to Missouri's Kristina Olshanskya 6-3, 6-4.
Competing in her first singles event for the Cowgirls was Linda Faltynkova, who won her first round matchup with Iowa State's Edna Vasquez before losing to the 2nd seeded Eline Chiew of Brigham Young.
In doubles action, both Cowgirl teams drew first round byes to move into the round of 32.
