STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team announced the signing of three players to national letters of intent last week. An Oklahoman, a Texan and an Arizonan will join the team for the 2000-2001 season.
Tiffany Paper is a senior at Copan High School in Copan, Okla. A 6-0 pitcher, Paper set the single-season state and national strikeout record with 567 Ks.
"Tiffany is probably one of the top two pitchers to come out of the state of Oklahoma," said OSU Associate Head Coach Margaret Rebenar. "She has size and power, and is a hard thrower. She has above-average velocity, but needs to work on her movement. Next year, she will definitely add depth on the mound. She is truly a competitor, and will be a good leader in time."
Paper chose Oklahoma State over Kansas, Penn State, Iowa and Oklahoma.
Calli Behmer is a senior at Lake Havasu High School in Lake Havasu, Ariz. She has been named all-region for three years, and was named the all-state shortstop her junior season.
"Calli has a wealth of experience due to the team she plays with during the summer," said Rebenar. "It is probably on of the top 10 in the country. She's an above-average hitter with great foot speed. She'll probably play a backup role her freshman season, and then step in her sophomore year for three years."
Behmer chose Oklahoma State over Arizona State and UNLV.
Danielle Thomas is a senior at Belton High School in Belton, Texas, near Temple, Texas. She was named all-state in 1999, and was voted the Most Valuable Player of her team and District 25. She plays shortstop in high school, but will probably be moved into the outfield in college.
"Danielle is a small, quick player that is very good defensively," said Rebenar. She has a strong arm, and has surpising power at the plate. Hopefully, she'll be an immediate impact player in the outfield. She was highly recommended by her high school coach, who is well respected by many Division I coaches."
Thomas chose Oklahoma State over Iowa State and several small Texas schools.
