Sloan Wins District V Meet

SAVOY, Ill. - Senior Chuck Sloan won the District V Midwest Meet, while Oklahoma State's men's cross country team finished third here today.
Sloan, who finished third at the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 30, won the 10-kilometer race in 30:25 at the UI Blue Golf Course. He barely edged out Drake's Jason Lehmkuhle, who finished with the same time.
Cowboys finished third after winning it for the past four years. Minnesota won the meet, while Missouri finished second. Overall, it was a close meet with less than six minutes separating Sloan and the last-place runner.
Bruce Wright finished the meet in 13th place, with a time of 31:15. Ben Lake crossed the line in 31:38 in 28th place to round out OSU's top-30 finishes. Jerry Rainey came close to joining them as he finished the race in 31st in 31:43.
Junior Vasquez rounded out the Cowboys' scoring with a 41st-place finish in a time of 32:05.
Staffan Stegmark and Trey Vernon also competed for OSU. Stegmark completed the race in 45th place with a time of 32:15. Vernon was 80th in 33:06.
The top two teams from the meet automatically advance to the 61st NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 in Bloomington, Ind. Thirteen more teams are selected for at-large bids from the nine district meets today. After those 31 teams of seven members are selected, an additional 38 individuals are invited to the championships.
