Cowgirls In Second Place After Two Shows

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Oklahoma State's Equestrian team won the first show and finished fourth in the second today at the Texas A&M Hunt Seat Show in College Station, Texas.
Oklahoma State won the first show with 21 points, one point ahead of the University of Texas. In the second show, the Cowgirls finished fourth, but were only five points behind the first place team from Trinity University.
Freshman Jackie Skibicki led the Cowgirls in the first show, placing first in both the intermediate fences and the open flat classes. Junior Ashley Bramlett received top honors in the open fences class, and sophomore Susie Reed won her division of the open flat class. Freshman Sarah Potter and junior Amber Burnett each one her division of the novice flat competition. Sophomore Casie Cavanaugh rounded out the first place finishers for the Cowgirls by receiving top honors in the walk-trot class.
In the second show, senior Charlotte Kin won the open flat class, and junior Allysa Allen placed first in the intermediate flat class. Junior Jennifer Baughman received top honors in the advanced walk-trot-canter class, and fellow junior Amy Allen won the walk-trot competition.
After these two shows, Oklahoma State is in first place in the region in total points with 148. After 10 shows, the hunt seat team with the highest point total will automatically qualify for the zone show and not have to compete in the regional show. At the zone show, the team will compete head-to-head with the team that won the regional show, and the winning team will advance to the national show.
The western team with the highest number of points in the region after 10 shows will automatically advance to nationals.
The Texas A&M Hunt Seat Show will continue tomorrow with another show. Next weekend, the Cowgirls will travel to Canyon, Texas for the West Texas A&M Western Show, which will consist of three western shows.
