Cowgirls Place Second In Two Shows

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Equestrian team recorded second place finishes in both the hunt seat and the western shows today at the Animal Science Arena.
The Cowgirls finished behind Texas A&M in both shows. The Cowgirls scored 24 points in the hunt seat show. They also recorded 20 points in the western show, finishing just one point behind Texas A&M.
"The girls preformed incredibly," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "One of the problems with having to name your point riders before the show is that you beat yourself. That's what happened today."
Freshman Jackie Skibicki led the Cowgirls in the hunt seat show, finishing fourth in intermediate fences and placing first in the open flat class.
Several other Cowgirls also won their class in the hunt seat show. Junior Ashley Bramlett took top honors in the open fences class, and sophomore Susie Reed placed first in the intermediate flat division. Juniors Stephanie Hefley and Amber Burnett also placed first in their sections of the novice flat class. Senior Amber Henderson also added a first place finish in the walk-trot division.
In the western show, the Cowgirls were led by senior Lara Phillips who placed second in open reining and fifth in the open stock seat class.
Freshman Kristen Thomas placed first in advanced western horsemanship II , and freshman Megan Walentine also recorded a first place finish in advanced western horsemanship I. Sarah Potter took top honors in the intermediate II class, and Amy Allen finished first in intermediate I. Jenny Myles also recorded a first place finish in the beginning stock seat class.
The Oklahoma State show will conclude tomorrow with a second western show beginning at 8 a.m. at the Animal Science Arena. Admission is free and a concession stand will be provided.
