Cowgirls Place First, Second In First Western Show

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Equestrian team finished first in one show and second in two others to place second overall at the Texas A&M show held at the Dick Freeman Arena this weekend.
Oklahoma State won the first show on Saturday with 24 points. The Cowgirls then finished just behind Texas A&M in the remaining two shows and finished in second place overall on the weekend with 59 points.
"I was really pleased with the team's performance," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Everyone showed really well. We do have a few things that need fixing. This week will allow us to work on some of those things in preparation for our home show next weekend. Overall, I was pleased with the way that we performed."
Nine Cowgirls also earned first place honors in their divisions. Freshmen Kim Cloud, Megan Walentine and Sarah Potter earned top honors in their divisions over the weekend. Sophomores Jenny Myles and Casie Cavanaugh also finished first in their divisions. Juniors Amy Allen, Amy Eastty, and Chelsea Makloski also finished first. Senior Amber Henderson also received top honors.
The Cowgirls will remain home this weekend to host two western shows and two hunt seat shows Oct. 29-31 at the animal science arena. This set of shows will mark the Cowgirls' home debut as a varsity sport.
