STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State Cowgirl equestrian team will open its western season this weekend as they travel to College Station, Texas to compete in three western shows.
Two shows will take place on Saturday and the third will be held on Sunday.
"We're very excited about this first western show of the season," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "We have some of the best western riders in the country. The girls have been working really hard. If they put into action what they've been practicing, it will be a successful weekend."
In their last action, the Cowgirls took top honors at the University of Texas show in Canyon, Texas on Oct. 2. The show consisted of two hunt seat shows and points from both shows were added together to determine overall placings. The Cowgirls' team score of 52 points was good enough for a first place overall finish.
Sophomore Audrey Buck won overall high-point honors for the show, as well as winning her division. Freshmen Jackie Skibicki, Kim Cloud and Amber Higgins also received first place in their divisions. Trista Armstrong and Susie Reed also received division top honors.
The Cowgirls will return home Oct. 29-31 as they host two hunt seat and two western shows at the Animal Science Arena.
