Jaime Sanchez-Cañamares enters his sixth season as an associate head coach for the Cowgirls.
Last year, Sanchez-Cañamares helped OSU to one of its greatest seasons to date, winning its first ITA Indoor National Championship, along with Big 12 regular season and tournament titles. The Cowgirls also boasted three All-America selections, the Big 12 Player of the Year and nine All-Big 12 honorees.
In his fourth season with Oklahoma State, Sanchez-Cañamares helped guide the Cowgirls to 16-8 record, with wins at the Big 12 and NCAA Championships. Along with head coach Chris Young, he produced two All-Big 12 singles selections in Ayumi Miyamoto and Lucia Peyre, along with an All-Big 12 doubles team in Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez. He also saw Peyre be named to the All-Big 12 Freshman team.
In 2021-22, Sanchez-Cañamares was a part of a Cowgirl team that finished the year 20-6, capping the season with a trip to the Sweet 16. He coached the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in Mhai Sawangkaew, along with two ITA All-Americans in Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto.
During the 2020-21 season, Sanchez-Cañamares helped coach the Big 12 Player of the Year and ITA All-American, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat. Sanchez-Cañamares also helped Alana Wolfberg to a second-team All-Big 12 selection and a trip to the NCAA Individual Championships.
In 2019-20 he helped guide the Cowgirls to an 11-1 record before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sanchez-Cañamares also helped coach Ayumi Miyamoto and Lisa Marie Rioux to All-America status during the shortened campaign.
Sanchez-Cañamares spent the 2018-19 campaign as the assistant coach for the Nebraska women’s tennis program after working in 2017-18 as an assistant at Florida State. While in Tallahassee, Sanchez-Cañamares helped the Seminoles to a 21-9 mark and a run to the NCAA Elite Eight, the first in program history.
As the volunteer assistant for OSU, Sanchez-Cañamares helped guide the Cowgirls to a 25-6 mark, a Big 12 title and a spot in the NCAA Elite Eight.
As a player, Sanchez-Cañamares competed at Fresno Pacific, Oklahoma Christian and Embry-Riddle, compiling a singles record of 70-14 and a doubles mark of 70-24. A four-time NAIA All-American, he helped Fresno Pacific and Oklahoma Christian to NAIA national titles in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Additionally, he helped Embry-Riddle to national runner-up showings in 2014 and 2015.
Following college, Sanchez-Cañamares worked for Saviano High Performance Tennis as a private developmental coach for both professionals and some of the top junior players around the world, including Sloane Stephens, Eugenie Bouchard and Amanda Anisimova.
Sanchez-Cañamares earned his degree in business administration from Embry-Riddle in 2015, graduating summa cum laude while finishing with a 4.0 GPA. He and his wife, Veronica, have one two children, Emily and Oliver.
