2019 OSU Barry Sanders Award for most contribution with the least recognition
A two-time first-team All-Big 12 honoree who was a standout performer and leader up front throughout his career.
2019 (Senior): A first-team All-Big 12 selection by the Associated Press ... Secured a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 team for the third consecutive year ... The OSU coaches honored him with the Barry Sanders Award presented for the most contribution with the least recognition ... The only Cowboy offensive lineman to start all 13 games ... Each of his 13 starts came at left guard ... A critical part of a unit that paved the way for Chuba Hubbard to lead the FBS in rushing yards and earn All-America and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year status ... Helped the Cowboys average 229.6 rushing yards per game - OSU’s highest average since 2008 ... A factor in the Cowboys ranking in the top 25 nationally in rushing offense, total offense and red zone offense ... Selected to serve as a game captain four times - against McNeese, Kansas State, Kansas and Oklahoma.
2018 (Junior): An Academic All-Big 12 honoree for the second time in his career ... Played in all 13 games and started at left guard in 11 of those contests ... Served as a game captain against Kansas and Baylor ... Helped pave the way for a Cowboy offense that ranked in the top 15 nationally in scoring offense, total offense, passing offense and first downs ... The Cowboys had 30 rushing touchdowns, averaged 4.8 yards per carry and 190.3 rushing yards per game ... The rushing yards per carry and rushing yards per attempt numbers are the best for an OSU team since 2012 ... Helped pave the way for one of the best team rushing performances of the Mike Gundy era (2005-present), when he opened up holes for a 431-yard rushing day for the Pokes in the season opener against Missouri State ... OSU had four games with 200 or more yards rushing.
2017 (Sophomore): Started all 13 games at left guard ... One of just two Cowboy offensive linemen to start every game during the season ... Played a significant part in the Cowboys rushing for 34 touchdowns, which is the most for OSU since 2013 ... Oklahoma State posted five games with at least 200 yards rushing ... Helped pave the way for a Cowboy offense that led the nation in passing offense, ranked second nationally in total offense and first downs, ranked third nationally in pass efficiency and ranked fourth nationally in scoring offense ... With Keyes helping anchor the offensive line, Oklahoma State became the first offense in Big 12 history with a 4,000-yard passer (Mason Rudolph), a 1,000-yard rusher (Justice Hill) and two 1,000-yard receivers (James Washington and Marcell Ateman) ... Contributed to OSU setting a school record with 747 yards of total offense against Baylor ... OSU averaged 4.6 yards per carry and 180.1 yards per game in 2017, both of which surpassed the team’s 2016 marks ... Served as a team captain against Texas and Kansas State.
2016 (Freshman): A Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 selection ... Was the only freshman to start on the offensive line, starting all 13 games at left guard ... Played a major role in Justice Hill becoming the first freshman in school history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards ... Was a strong contributor on an offensive line that cleared the way for a substantial uptick in the running game from the previous season, as the Cowboys went from averaging 3.6 yards per carry and 126.8 yards per game without Keyes playing in 2015 to averaging 4.5 yards per carry and 171.0 yards per game with Keyes helping pave the way in 2016 ... OSU had two games of 200 yards rushing in 2015, but increased that total to five such games in 2016 ... Cowboy running backs combined for 25 rushing touchdowns in 2016, matching the two-year total from 2014 and 2015 combined.
2015: Redshirt.
High School: Played for coach Guy Blanchard … Played on both the offensive and defensive lines … Originally committed to Louisiana, but made a late switch to Oklahoma State … Also offered by Missouri, Houston and Louisiana Tech.
Personal: Marcus Keyes was born June 30, 1996 ... Son of Denise Smith ... His father, also named Marcus Keyes, played on the defensive line for the Chicago Bears from 1996-1997.
