Bassett, a Cowboy football player from 2009-12, returns to Stillwater after most recently working as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Utah State, where he coached from 2023-24.

With 12 years of coaching experience, Bassett has been part of two divisional championship teams and has coached in four bowl games.

In 2024, Bassett served as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for a Utah State offense that finished the regular season ranked No. 7 in the nation in total offense with an average of 467.7 yards per game. The USU offense also ranked No. 22 nationally in both passing offense (269.1) and rushing offense (198.6).

In his first year at Utah State in 2023, Bassett helped the Aggies to six wins and an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Aggies led the Mountain West and ranked 25th in the nation in total offense (438.6 ypg). USU was also 26th nationally in scoring offense (33.2 ppg), 30th in rushing offense (184.4 ypg) and 43rd in the nation in passing offense (254.2 ypg).

Bassett came to Utah State after spending the 2022 season as the offensive line coach at Sam Houston State, where the Bearkats rushed for an average of 162.3 yards per game (4.4 yards per attempt) and allowed just 18 sacks. They finished first in the Western Athletic Conference in sacks allowed and second in rushing offense. Bassett also coached Jordan Boatman to second-team all-conference honors.

Prior to Sam Houston State, Bassett spent the 2021 season directing the offensive line at Southeast Missouri, where his unit helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher in Geno Hess. Bassett also coached a pair of offensive linemen to all-conference accolades in Nate Korte and Zack Gieg.

Bassett spent four years from 2017-20 as the offensive line coach at West Texas A&M, including two seasons as the running game coordinator.

In 2020, Bassett’s offensive line paved the way for a West Texas A&M offense that ranked 14th in the nation in rushing at 207.6 yards per game. The Buffs led the Lone Star Conference in third down (41.4 percent) and fourth down (58.3 percent) conversion percentage, as well as first downs (99). The 99 first downs also ranked eighth nationally.

The offensive line produced 363 yards in total offense per game during the 2019 campaign. Under Bassett’s tutelage, the Buffs rushed for 31 touchdowns to mark their most in a season in over a decade. West Texas A&M ranked first in the LSC and 15th in the nation in sacks allowed that year.

In 2018, Bassett coached a pair of All-Lone Star Conference performers in Parker Hanna and Travis Vornkahl. His offensive line also paved the way for All-Lone Star Conference rusher Duke Carter IV.

Before WT, Bassett was on staff at as an offensive graduate assistant at Missouri and Maryland. He spent three seasons at Missouri from 2013-15 and one season at Maryland in 2016. Missouri finished 23-5 and won back-to-back SEC East Division titles during his stint, and he worked primarily with the offensive line during at Maryland.

A native of Tuttle, Okla., Bassett was a four-year letterman from 2009-12 and senior captain at Oklahoma State, where he played tight end and defensive line. The Cowboys went 40-12 during his time as a player. He earned his bachelor’s degree in science from OSU in 2012 and master’s in education from Missouri in 2015.
