Chris Sobonya joined the Oklahoma State baseball staff in August 2018 as the program’s director of strength, conditioning, and performance science.
Sobonya’s numerous duties include creating and implementing strength and conditioning programs for power, speed and agility, injury prevention, and physical rehabilitation, as well as nutritional and sleep strategies, vision training and mental toughness.
Sobonya brings a wealth of professional baseball experience to his second stint at OSU, where he served on the strength and conditioning staff for baseball and football from 1996-98 while earning his master’s degree in kinesiology.
Following his time at OSU in 1998, Sobonya worked as the strength and conditioning coach for the Durham Bulls, the Triple A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. On the heels of that, he served as the Minor League Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning for the Kansas City Royals for two years.
Sobonya purchased and developed Bodyworks Health Club and served as president and CEO from 2000-04. He also served as a strength and conditioning consultant to OSU baseball during that period, helping design and plan in-season and off-season training programs for the Cowboys, and was a doctoral candidate in health and leisure at OSU from 2002-04.
From 2009-11, Sobonya served as the Player Development Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Sobonya is an NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In 1996, he earned a degree in exercise science from Montana State, where he played football for the Bobcats.
