STILLWATER – A two-hitter by Ruby Meylan and three two-run home runs powered the No. 16/13 Oklahoma State softball team to a 7-0 win over Kansas on Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the win, Oklahoma State finished the regular season 37-14 overall and 16-8 in conference play, while Kansas ended at 34-18 and 14-10 in the Big 12. OSU secured the No. 2 seed for the Big 12 Softball Tournament with the win and will match up against the No. 7 seed, Utah, for the opening round of the tournament on Thursday, May 7, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. CT at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
The Cowgirls scored in each of the first three innings. A fielder's choice in the first scored Rosie Davis for the game's opening run. In the second, Audrey Schneidmiller hit the first of OSU's three two-run home runs. Davis followed with her 13th home run of the season in the third inning.
That homer marked Davis' 30th career home run, which is tied for sixth on OSU's all-time career home run list.
Madison Hoffman added the final two-run shot in the fifth inning, her fourth home run of the year. Over her last five at-bats, Hoffman has recorded three home runs and a triple.
In the circle, Meylan (26-6) started her 25th game of the season and earned the win. She struck out seven and allowed just two hits while recording her seventh shutout and 20th complete game of the year. In the fourth inning, Meylan recorded her 200th strikeout of the season, becoming just the fourth Cowgirl in program history to post consecutive 20-win seasons with more than 200 strikeouts, joining Melanie Roche, Michele Smith and Kim Ward.
Lila Partridge (9-4) started for Kansas and took the loss. Blakely Barber and Samantha Claire pitched in relief.
The Cowgirls will be back in action at the Big 12 Softball Championship against the No. 7 seed, Utah on Thursday, May 7, at 5 p.m. CT inside Devon Park in Oklahoma City.
