Cowgirl 4x400 Meter Relay squad breaks program record as Cowgirls wrap up Big 12 Outdoor Championships
May 17, 2026 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
TUCSON, Ariz. – Oklahoma State men's and women's outdoor track & field concluded action at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., spotlighted two program records and a Big 12 title.
In a men's 5,000 Meter race that included multiple first team All-Americans both on the track and in cross country, it was Cowboy sixth year senior Will Muirhead who came home with his first career Big 12 title and just the third victory in any track race in his Cowboy career.
Muirhead was originally in the race as a pacer, but decided to stick it out until the end and unleashed a devastating move to the front with roughly 400 meters to go that seemed to take the rest of the field by surprise. He used a final lap 55.34 split to take home the win by over two seconds, becoming the eighth Cowboy and the first since Alex Maier in 2024 to win the men's 5K title outdoors. Muirhead's winning time of 13:49.19 broke the previous Roy P. Drachman stadium record of 13:56.72 set by Ryan Wilson of Arkansas in 1996.
The impressive performances continued for the Cowboys, with true freshman Kevin Kemboi returning from a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump on Friday to pick up yet another fourth-place finish Saturday, this time in the Triple Jump. Kemboi's wind-aided mark of 16.63 meters set a new all-conditions school record, breaking his wind-legal mark of 16.34 meters set at the Florida Relays earlier this season. His mark is also No. 7 in the NCAA this season.
After breaking the program records in the Decathlon and Javelin Throw on Friday, Steven Schmidt grabbed his second All-Big 12 honor in the men's High Jump with a clearance of 2.07 meters for a seventh-place finish overall. In the men's Discus Throw, Nate Collier also picked up All-Big 12 honors as he finished eighth with his throw of 56.45 meters.
Back on the track for the Cowboys, senior Hafez Mahadi took the men's 800 Meters out and led for much of it, earning a career-best second-place finish with his time of 1:46.64 to give the Cowboys eight team points.
On the women's side, junior Billah Jepkirui picked up the highest finish of the weekend for the Cowgirls in the 1,500 Meters as she finished second with her time of 4:10.16. Jepkirui's second-place finish gives her four All-Big 12 honors outdoors.
In the women's 800 Meter final, senior Kaylie Politza and true freshman Brooke Beck placed fifth and sixth place with times of 2:06.55 and 2:06.76, respectively.
In the final race of the competition on the women's side, the Cowgirl quartet of Annie Molenhouse, Madisyn Jackson, Jinah Mickens-Malik and Kalen Goodman brought the night to an end with a fifth-place time of 3:32.21, setting a program record by almost a second. The record was previously held by Christina Ollison, Nicolette Dixon, Kalaya Ali and Tamara Woodley with a time of 3:33.16 at the 2022 Baylor Invitational.
The 20th-ranked Cowboys finished in seventh place with 62 points while the Cowgirls finished in sixth place with 58 points.
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville, Ark., from May 27-30.
