Cowgirls secure series win against Baylor

WACO, Texas – Amanda Hasler hit a grand slam in the first inning to power the No. 18/17 Oklahoma State softball team to a 9-1 run-rule victory over Baylor in six innings on Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
The win secured the series for Oklahoma State, which improved to 33-13 overall and 13-7 in Big 12 play. Baylor fell to 27-22 and 9-11 in conference play. The victory also marked the Cowgirls' fifth consecutive Big 12 series win.
Hasler's grand slam, her second of the season and 12th home run overall, gave the Cowgirls an early lead and set the tone offensively. She drove in another run in the fifth inning to finish with five RBIs. Hasler has seven RBIs in the series through the first two games.
OSU added to its lead in the second inning when Karli Godwin hit her fifth home run of the season.
Leading, 6-1 entering the sixth, OSU scored three runs to trigger the run rule. Godwin opened the scoring in the inning with a double that drove in Jayelle Austin. A wild pitch later allowed Libby Jaques to score, and Jayden Jones followed with a groundout that brought home Godwin.
Baylor's only run came in the fourth inning when SaMya Jones scored on a Cowgirl error.
Freshman Preslee Downing (5-0) started in the circle for the Cowgirls and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. Former Baylor Bear RyLee Crandall entered in relief and finished the game for the Cowgirls. For Baylor, Lexi Warncke (3-4) started and pitched 1 2/3 innings, taking the loss.
The Pokes go for the series sweep at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.
