SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A two-run sixth inning lifted the No. 21/21 Oklahoma State softball team to a 4-2 win over Utah, completing a series sweep over the Utes on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Family Softball Stadium.
With the win, OSU moved to 25-10 overall and 7-5 in conference play, while Utah dropped to 25-11 and 4-5. The Cowgirls have picked up wins in eight out of their last nine contests.
In the sixth inning, with the score tied at 2-2, Lexi McDonald delivered a go-ahead double to center field that scored one run. A few batters later, Tia Warsop drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 4-2.
OSU opened the scoring in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Audrey Schneidmiller. Utah answered in the bottom half with a home run by Cian Noli to even the score at one apiece.
Karli Godwin gave the Cowgirls the lead again in the third inning with an RBI single, marking her 150th career hit. Utah tied the game in the fourth inning on its second home run, a solo shot by Payton Crank, her fourth of the season.
For the third consecutive game, the same pitchers were credited with the win and loss. Ruby Meylan (15-6) earned the win in relief, allowing no runs or walks over 3 2/3 innings while extending her winning streak to eight games. Hailey Maestretti started for Utah, pitched five innings, and took the loss.
On the week, Meylan went 4-0 with a 0.78 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 18.0 innings of work.
The Cowgirls are off until April 8, when they travel to Wichita, Kansas, to face Wichita State at 6 p.m. CT. OSU and WSU will resume the contest that was suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning on March 10 before beginning the regularly-scheduled contest.
