Q&A with Defensive Coordinator Skyler Cassity
March 12, 2026 | Cowboy Football
What do you remember from your first time in Stillwater as a child?
"I ate a lot of Eskimo Joe's. Went to a lot of games, a lot of wrestling matches, basketball, and just hanging out in Stillwater, obviously."
Is it a weird full circle moment to be back in Stillwater after 25 years, and after your dad and brother were here?
"It's exciting. Obviously I came up here a lot with playing on the opposing sideline, and then getting to watch my brother play up here. I made a bunch of trips, as many as I could, to watch the success he had here."
When you found out that you weren't going to be able to play football anymore, was that a difficult thing for you?
"Yeah, you know, but just like every young football player, that's what you think you're going to do. You think you are good enough to play college football, and that's what I thought my path was going to be too, and obviously it was a drastic change. You have your routine appointment to then find out you're done. When you have a pretty big moment early on and you readjust your track and change your path and mine worked out. My high school coach allowed me to coach while I was still in high school, and it started my coaching career a little bit earlier."
What are your thoughts on Coach Morris saying the defense has been dominant early in practice?
"Yeah, the good thing about this is we're going against an extremely explosive offense every single day, and our kids have to come with a focus and attention to detail of what they have to do, and I think they did a good job today."
Is defensive tackle a key part of your defense?
"We have a lot of good guys. We have a bunch of different guys that come from a lot of different places playing different systems, and to be successful in our defense, that position's got to be good. There's going to be a learning curve of that, but those guys are on pace and doing a great job."
