Cowgirl Softball suspends game against Wichita State in seventh inning
March 10, 2026 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – In the bottom of the seventh inning with Wichita State leading the No. 15/21 Oklahoma State softball team, 8-3, play was suspended, and the game will resume when they face each other in Wichita on April 8.
With two runners on and one out in the bottom of the seventh, a lightning strike in the region sent the contest into a weather delay. After a 28-minute delay, the game was suspended, with the remainder to be played in Wichita on April 8, before the originally scheduled game against the Shockers.
Gabby Scott started the scoring in the game with a two-run home run, which was her third home run of the year. She was then followed up by a Jodie Epperson two-run double to give Wichita State a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
The Shockers piled on two more runs in the top of the third inning when Chloe Rhine hit her fifth home run of the year to make it 6-0. Wichita State took an eight-run lead in the top of the fifth inning when Brookelyn Livanec singled through the right side with the bases loaded to drive in two runs.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Jayden Jones extended the game with an RBI double that brought home pinch-runner Kaya Booker from first base. Karli Godwin cut the deficit to five runs with a two-run home run in the following inning, her second long ball of the season.
OSU sent out RyLee Crandall to start in the circle, and she pitched 3.0 innings. Preslee Downing came in to relieve Crandall in the fourth inning to close out the game.
Riley Nihart was in the circle when the game was suspended and was in the midst of a complete game. Nihart tallied four strikeouts with just two walks on the night.
The Cowgirls will resume Big 12 play against Arizona State at 7 p.m. on March 13 in Tempe, Arizona. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
