Evanston, Ill. – Oklahoma State's eighth-ranked women's tennis team got back in the win column with a 4-1 win over Northwestern on Saturday in Evanston, Illinois.
The win is the third of the season for the Cowgirls while also snapping a two-match losing streak. OSU will conclude its weekend at the ITA Indoor National Championships against No. 14 Tennessee on Sunday at Noon.
The match began with doubles, with Oklahoma State winning the point. Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp defeated Mika Dagan Fruchtman and Neena Feldman, 6-3, on court one. Lucia Peyre and Luca Udvardy bested Marelie Raath and Maia Loureiro, 6-1, to clinch the point for the Cowgirls.
Olivia Lincer and Marcela Lopez were leading Margot Phanthala and Erica Jessel, 4-2, on court two before the match was abandoned.
In singles, the first point belonged to Northwestern on court six after the match was retired due to an injury. OSU then collected wins on courts five, one and four, to win the match. Udvardy was the first to finish, beating Raath, 6-2, 6-1, for her first collegiate win.
Next to finish was Lincer, besting Phanthala, 6-2, 6-1. Lincer has won in singles in every match this season. The final point came from Peyre, defeating Loureiro, 6-3, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Cowgirls.
Two singles matches were abandoned as the Cowgirls clinched, with Komar leading Feldman, 6-3, 5-4, and Nijkamp leading Rabjohns, 7-5, 1-2.
