Cowgirl Catalyst: Akot Gives Cowgirls Edge Over Kansas in Regular Season Finale
February 28, 2026 | Cowgirl Basketball
STILLWATER – Achol Akot helped lead Oklahoma State's women's basketball team to a 14-point victory over Kansas on Saturday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Akot dropped a near double-double, netting 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting and picking up nine boards. In addition, the Cowgirl ended her day with two steals and a block, proving her worth on the defensive end. Akot entered the game averaging 11.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 blocks and 1.4 steals, all stats which she improved on against the Jayhawks.
"I mean it's amazing, I have never played in front of so many fans, my first two years of basketball," Akot said. "I had nobody to play in front of so it's just amazing to have some many fans."
On Senior Day, Akot gave high praise to her teammates, Micah Gray, Haleigh Timmer and Wilnie Joseph, in their final game at GIA.
"Just all three of them are like, different leaders, they have different leadership styles," Akot said. "Timmy is like a role model, Nini is very vocal, and Micah, she just does the work. That's how she is, she's a leader."
After finishing with only one loss at home in the regular season, Akot and the Cowgirls look to carry the momentum into the Kansas City and far into March.
"We're not done yet," Akot said. "I think this just makes us even more hungry. So, all those teams back are going to see it."
Akot and the Cowgirls will head to Kansas City with a double bye following the win and will play the 5-seed on Friday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
