Cowboy Baseball Drops Season Opener
February 13, 2026 | Cowboy Baseball
ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma State fell in its season opener against No. 5 Arkansas Friday night, dropping a 12-2 contest in the Shriners Children's College Showdown at Globe Life Field.
Garrett Shull homered for the Cowboys, who were held to just four hits on the night.
Hudson Barrett took the loss on the mound in his OSU debut. The left-hander worked 4 2/3 innings and struck out six while allowing six runs, only three of them earned, on four hits.
OSU fell behind in the first inning on a two-run home run by Ryder Helfrick, and a solo shot, again off the bat of Helfrick, made it 3-0 in the third.
The Cowboys trimmed that deficit to one with a long ball of their own in the fifth as Shull delivered a two-run bomb to right field after Campbell Smithwick reached on an error.
However, Arkansas would answer in the bottom of the inning. The Razorbacks loaded the bases with two outs, knocking Barrett out of the game, then plated a run on an infield single and two more on a single to right off Stormy Rhodes to make the score 6-2.
Arkansas added to its lead with three runs in the seventh, the big blow coming on another two-run homer. A three-run shot in the eighth secured the run-rule win.
OSU returns to action Saturday against Bedlam-rival Oklahoma, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
