CARY, N.C. – Two members of Oklahoma State's women's tennis team competed in the singles main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina, on Wednesday.
The day began with Rose Marie Nijkamp competing for the first time in the tournament. No. 53 Nijkamp got a win and advanced, upsetting No. 23 Anabelle Xu from Virginia, 6-3, 6-3. No. 50 Gracie Epps fell to No. 51 Josie Usereau of Arizona in a thrilling match, 6-0, 1-6, 6-7.
Two other Cowgirls competed in the tournament earlier in the week, with Marcela Lopez falling in the singles pre-qualifying draw, while Lucia Peyre came up short in the singles qualifying draw. In doubles, Lopez and Epps fell to North Carolina's Theadora Rabman and Tatum Evans in the qualifying draw.
Nijkamp will meet Wisconsin's No. 8 Maria Sholokhova in Thursday's Round of 32 of the singles draw, while Epps will face No. 1 DJ Bennett of Auburn in the consolation draw. Match times for both Cowgirls are still to be determined.
