STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Softball has bolstered its transfer class with the signing of infielder Lena Perez, head coach Kenny Gajewski announced today.
Perez joins the Orange and Black with one year of eligibility remaining after spending her previous three seasons at Long Beach State.
"We're very happy to add Lena to the group," Gajewski said. "She brings a level of experience to the left side of the infield that should make for a fun battle to watch this fall."
Long Beach State's primary shortstop in each of her three seasons as a Dirtbag, Perez holds a career .166 batting average in 277 at-bats with 24 runs scored and 28 RBIs. This past season, she set a single-season career high with 15 runs scored and slashed .167/.245/.271 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 11 RBIs.
"I'm beyond excited to be a part of a winning culture with the most amazing coaches and girls," Perez said. "Being a Cowgirl means so much to me and I can't wait to make history with this team."
Perez started in 47 contests as a true freshman for Long Beach State and finished the year with 16 hits and 11 RBI.
A native of Chandler, Ariz., Perez graduated from Vista Grande High School as a three-time first team All-Conference selection and the 2022 Region Player of the Year after she set her school record with 13 home runs as a senior.
Perez is the fourth Division I transfer to choose Oklahoma State for the upcoming season, joining utility player Jayden Jones (Virginia Tech), outfielder Melina Wilkison (Indiana) and outfielder Kaya Booker (Georgia Tech).
