Cowgirl Tennis Sweeps Tulsa in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

NORMAN, Okla. – No. 20 Oklahoma State advanced past the opening round of the NCAA Tournament with a 4-0 win over No. 36 Tulsa in the Norman Regional.

This is the 11^th time in the last 12 tournaments that the Cowgirls have advanced to the second round, and they are now 20-7 on the season, reaching 20 wins for the third time in the last four years.

OSU took an early lead after winning the doubles point for the 13^th time in its last 14 matches. Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez put the first win on the board, defeating the No. 85 team of Ana Naranjo Martinez and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez, 6-4. Gracie Epps and Melisa Ercan followed that by beating Isabella Basson and Tayla Wilmot, 6-3, to secure the point for the Cowgirls.

In singles, Oklahoma State got straight-set wins on courts two, three and four to clinch the win. Collins was the first to finish, getting a dominant win over Wilmot, 6-0, 6-1. The other two OSU wins came almost simultaneously, with No. 84 Komar besting Manyoma Velasquez, 6-3, 6-4, before Nijkamp took down Hutchings, 6-4, 6-2, to secure the victory.

The Cowgirls will now await the winner of No. 6 Oklahoma and Denver in tomorrow's Round of 32, set for a 2 p.m. start in Norman.
